During this internship at NASA I worked in the Robotics Flight Operations Branch. This branch manages all operations related to the Canadaarm2 located on the International Space Station.

During my time here I learned about what it takes to be a flight controller as well as experienced some of the training given to astronauts to fly the arm from space! I also helped to automate a real time operation of swapping materials on the MISSE (Materials International Space Station Experiement) with new ones sent up during the SpaceX using the Lua programming language.

During this internship at NASA I worked in the Simulation and Graphics Branch where I developed virtual reality simulations that train astronauts and inspire readiness for exploration.

I worked with Unity using C# and PUN2 to create a multiplayer environment and desktop fly cam. I also worked on a tool for generating lunar terrain in Unity from Digital Elevation Models. I also got to test some projects for use with a Varjo XR-3.

During my Internship at Nasa I was exposed to the hardware design and embedded software engineering processes that are followed in Avionics. My job was to configure a PolarFire FPGA from Microsemi to run on the RISC-V ISA. Then I used C to enable peripherals on a daughter PCB that was connected to the FPGA.

Other than my work, I learned so much about life at NASA and how to think about problems that you would not expect to happen in a zero gravity environment.

During my internship at Kohls I learned what it means to be on a reliability engineering team. I learned about managing software and resources and how to create testing to check their availability and response times. I learned about RedHat Openshift, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, and more. I really enjoyed my time at Kohls and I can attest to their great company culture.

During this internship at NM, I got my first taste of what DevOps and Data Engineering using cloud tools is like. I learned how to use AWS and how to connect the resources using Terraform in an IAAS architecture. I also learned about how my fellow teammates managed CICD pipelines and was exposed to YAML. Northwestern Mutual highly values networking and professional development as these were the most valuable soft skills I sharpened during my time there.
